CowParade Austin TX 2011 has started and will continue for about 3 months.
What's a Cow Parade? Don't feel bad if you've never heard of this before as it's only been around since 1999. A CowParade is a huge art exhibit where different cities across the country display local artists who use a cow as their canvas. The first CowParade was in Chicago and to date, according to the CowParade Website, these exhibits have been held in 75 cities in 30 countries on 6 continents!! More than 5000 cows have been produced!! Here is History of the CowParade.
Here in Austin TX, the CowParade will benefit Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. On Sunday, October 30, at the Driskill Hotel, the best 50 cows will be auctioned off. In past auctions, cows have averaged about $10,000 each!! That's a lot!!
Don't want to spend $10,000 on a cow canvas? No problem... they have something called "Mini Moos" or "Micro Moos" created by local children. These Moos are part of a silent auction held at the same time as the main auction.
Here is the CowParade map for the first distribution of cows. More cows will be added as the weeks go on.
I know the weather is a little hot to be walking around outside for too long, but put on your tennis shoes, grab a bottle of water, and prepare to find enough shade to cool off, but go out and support the local artists!
