Today is not unlike most days at the end of the month. I've had to coordinate four closings, which one isn't happening because the lender decided to ask for more stuff at the 11th hour... but that leaves me with three. The first one at 11:30am went off without a hitch, eazy peazy.
My next closing was right afterwards at the same title company so I just sat tight and waited for my buyers. Mrs. Buyer is due any day, so I met them at the door to the building and walked with them to the closing room.
They have two liens, so two stacks of paper. We're on our way through the first stack, about halfway, and all of a sudden the fire alarm goes off. We're talking noises, strobe lights, and then some automated recording telling people to vacate the building. Really? Are you serious?
The office is a bunch of glass windows for lots of natural light. We didn't see any other people vacating so we signed a few more papers... and then masses of people start coming into the lobby. I guess we better go too.
We gathered all our stuff in case we weren't allowed back in the building, made copies of their driver's licenses so that wouldn't be an issue for funding, and we all piled in the car to continue signing docs. It was 105 degrees outside, so we weren't going to be without air conditioning!
If something else could go wrong, it would be the water breaking and this baby being born with all this added excitement, but at least there was a firetruck right on sight and they're trained for emergencies like this if it's needed...
Talk about customer service. Not only will the title company come to you for a closing, but they'll sign you right in your car with the AC on and everything.
I got out to take a picture and told them they would see themselves on my blog. The title company wants to put the picture in their lobby as well.
I reminded them that if something didn't go wrong, they wouldn't have a story to tell. Now they have a great story about how they bought their very first house!! They'll never forget it!!
