I hate papercuts, who doesn't? When Docusign first came out, I thought it might be a fad. It was argued back and forth about electronic signatures not really being accepted in real estate so I waited and waited to get that confirmation that they weren't going to be allowed... that confirmation never came. Electronic signatures started being more and more common. I jumped on the Docusign bandwagon about a year ago, and looking back, I can't believe I didn't do it much sooner.
Previously to Docusign, I was always printing and scanning and printing and scanning and even though it doesn't "shrink" like a fax, the type starts to get blurry. Docusign is awesome because changes can be made right within the program. I can X out a term and "data field" the counter term, then put it through the system and have my clients initial the change. Sometimes just one page had changes and I would have to print that one page out, scan it back in so I didn't have to print an entire document... more time with the little stuff.
What I added to save more time and paper was PDF Creator. I could take a document and instead of sending an entire document to someone, I could create a new PDF with only the pages that need to be sent, and that saves paper and printing as well. In my market, the sellers and listing agents don't care to see the inspection report, but when you need to reference something in the inspection report, it's good to be able to single out that page without having to print it and scan it back in.
I've had clients in other states. I've had clients in other countries. They are all a little nervous at first, but when I describe Docusign to them and how it will take under 2 minutes, they get excited. When I mention that they get to pick their own font, they get even more excited. I had clients close over the summer and they were in their 70's. They absolutely loved the ease of Docusign and were amazed that we didn't have to drive around town anymore to get signatures and initials on documents.
There are still some companies that don't allow electronic signatures, and to those companies, I say,
"Get with the times!!"
