Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Do You Digg? Yet, another social network...

Do You Digg? Yet, another social network...

I've been hearing more and more about Digg so I went today to check it out.  I signed up for a profile because isn't that the thing to do these days?  There are so many social networking sites, ActiveRain, Twitter, Facebook, Wanna Network, Linked In, etc... and I was really reluctant to sign up for another, but I did.

However, upon getting there and trying to find people, I'm finding that not as many people "Digg" as I thought.  I went through my entire subscription list from AR, and only 4 people were on Digg.

For those on Digg, what do you like or don't like about it?  Is it worth spending more time on, yet, another social network?  My time is very thin these days, and I would hate to spend time where it could be spent elsewhere, ya know what I mean?

Let me know! Thanks!

I thought digg was more of a bookmarking site?

Social Media reminds me of the latest carnival ride that everyone wants to ride. Each Summer something new comes out. I've never heard of DIGG, but I would bet they, like everyone else is looking for the next big "it" to sell to Google. Anyways, let us know how it works! bye

Kevin, I've been reading all the stuff on what it is and how to use it.  It seems like it's a place to "digg" or "thumbs up" anything you find online, but then you're sharing it with others and asking them to join into the discussion of the topic or article.  I was looking at it as a way to post your blogs as well to get more people reading them.  *shrug*  still learning about it.

Greg, It says it's been around since 2004.  I've heard of it more and more this past year, so it's not "new" per se, but it's definitely not as popular as others have become. I'm just looking for more ways to get my name out since 65% of my business last year came directly from online leads and online referrals through social networking.  65% is A LOT!

... sheesh ANOTHER one huh !

I seem to get about one new friend / colleague request a week from a new site !

I'll check it out though, because like you said, the more we can get our name out there the better !

Cheers Donna !

Sheldon, Yes, another one... I keep getting requests for Plaxo and Naymes and a couple of others that I keep ignoring too. I figured I could join one a quarter, but my other hand says I'm done with joining more sites!

I am not a member there yet but will soon be.  I need to create a website that links all these other sites together.  I am a big believer in an online presence because that is where most people are hanging out these days, but man...  that's a lot of websites!  LOL!!

The next brilliant invention is to have one application that will allow you to post to each of these social networking sites...to save us all time...

Jared, Go ahead and connect to me. The links in the post link to my profiles on those particular sites as well.

Konnie, To an extent, what you want is available. I write a post on AR and it goes directly to Twitter and Facebook without me posting at those sites (public posts).  When I tweat on twitter, it goes directly to FB.

Active Rain so far is the only 1 that has actually generated business for me. the other have really been only worth entertainment value so far. I think I am done with Facebook, twitter & Linked in unless someone can really show me why I should spend the time.

Michael:  I can't show you why Facebook is valuable for you, but I know for me it has created a lot of business and future business.  It's a gold mine if you work it right.  Not sure what you have been doing with it but it works!

Michael, I've gotten tons of business from AR, but have not gotten any business directly related to the others... but I feel it's important to have my name out there in a consistant manner for the "just in case" so people have name recognition.

Jared, I'm hoping that since I've reconnected with some old friends, that they're eventually lead to new business from FB.
