Do you have too much debt and you don't want to pay it off with hard work like the average citizen, then just file bankruptcy! Apparently it's just that easy!
The latest big company to be tired of their debt just filed BK, Six Flags. Six Flags runs several theme parks across the country, Mexico, and Canada.
Six Flags Over Texas even just went through an ordeal to get alcohol sales into their park, which also allowed it in the neighboring water park, Hurricane Harbor. Allowing the alcohol was supposed to bring in extra money to boost their profit levels...
However, Six Flags, based in New York, decided they were tired of their $2.4B debt over their heads, and instead of getting a second or third job like many Americans, they decided to file bankruptcy.
Why? Because they, "...need to reorganize and shed $1.8B of debt."
My suggestion? LOWER YOUR PRICES!!!
Your ticket prices are so outrageously high, it's no wonder that your attendence is going down. If you lower your ticket prices, you'll get more people, hence, you'll make up the difference in the prices, plus make a lot more based on shear volume of people!
I used to live right across the street from Six Flags Over Texas and I never once went there during that time because it was so expensive, and prices have only gone up since then. I haven't gone in over 15 years, and I remember it as a fun place. Too bad they got to greedy making their prices too high for the average person to be able to go... maybe they wouldn't be in $2.4B, and that is a B for BILLION, not Million, of debt.

Now I heard that Ou Six Flags Georgia had a special rate right now .. eveyone pays a childs ticket price.. hmm maybe that should have kifs bring a parent and they get in free pp the parent that is
I knew when Jim Cramer was screming "BUY!" a year or two ago that they were probably in trouble :)
Ya woulda (Tex Talk) thought when they hit $1 billion that their model was not working. Maybe that thinkin' is way out of line.
As I have not been to a park in a zillion years, at was in Orlando this year for a convention and went by that little theme park they have there......and there was a family that had 4 kids with them and that's when it hit me. OMG (Text talk), how can they afford to take them there? They all were dressed quite poorly so either they were quite wealthy and overly frugal, or were poor and had their focus on their children. I then wondered how is this model working?
Do you know the names of the 6 flags?
Eric, But even the kid's price is around $30. That's just insane!
John, They're trading below $0.50 right now... I think it's $0.26.
Tim, No joke! $1M is just pennies for them though. As for the flags, I can guess at them, but don't actually know them off the top of my head. Like Texas, Spain, Mexico, France... and I think Texas was broken up into what they used to be as a Confederate and a Republic?? Am I right? Process of elimination...
Sounds like Six Flags took a page from the government. When you don't have enough business, raise prices.
Your title made me think this was an attorney looking for clients!
Pat, No joke!
Brian, But raising prices deters more people from coming which decreases the bottom line even more.
Gary, But it got your attention, right?
Hi Donna... Six Flags is a fun place, but I also have not been there in over 10 years, largely due to the cost (for the park AND the parking). The last time that I was there, I was doing a remote radio broadcast using a cellular phone and reporting from the looping roller coaster. It was like a minute of me screaming on the air. I think that they might do better business if they dropped the freaky dancing old bald guy from their commercials... he bugs the heck out of me!
Steve, All those "2 flags.... 6 flags... which was more fun?" commercials bug me. At least the old guy was entertaining...
The last time I was there was for AP Physics in high school. Each year, they have Physics day and you ride the rides and work out calculations while doing so. It was a lot of fun, but haven't been back since.
I agree with you Donna, It's just like the newspapers being in trouble so what do they do, they raise their prices. Hello!?
Hey, I didnt hear about this. The latest I heard about Six Flags was that you could get an adult ticket for the price of a child. Interesting.
Gads, I hadn't heard this one. Last time we went to a Six Flags park was several years ago and it was SOOO expensive! This whole "we'll just write it off and file bankruptcy" mentality just really ticks me off. Hey! Maybe we should all just file bankruptcy! You know, I have a coupla cars ... a house ... AND I have to buy groceries every week. What happened to the concept of just working a bit harder, hmmm? (sorry ... this topic always strikes a nerve ...)
Ricki, No joke! I felt bad for the paperboy who came over a couple of weeks ago asking if we wanted a subscription. I asked him if he had heard of the internet and coupons.com.
John, And don't forget that beer you can now buy!
Gabrielle, EXACTLY!! I had a listing appt a couple of months ago, and the guy was about to be foreclosed on in 2 weeks, so he just filed BK to save the house and not worry about listing it or anything. People are always wanting something for nothing.
Donna, lowering the prices would allow more families to be able to spend more time there. Hasn't any of the large companies learned anything? We have Silver Dollar City here in the Branson area. Prices are outragious!
Kay, No lessons learned... they like to just keep repeating the same pattern over and over again... I remember when it was under $10 to get into Hurrican Harbor, and now it's around $20. What parents want to drop their kid off at a water park for that amount?
