Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: New Ordinance for Sex Offenders

New Ordinance for Sex Offenders

Come November, people in Richardson, TX will be voting on a new ordanance for registered sex offenders and where they can live.  The debate is whether or not the boundary should be after 1000 feet of the "premise where children commonly gather" or after 2000 feet.

If you spread it out past 2000 feet, you limit many many areas as Richardson has many parks and schools.  Either way the vote goes, my immediate area is "safe", but if they only need to be 1000 feet away, part of the southern part of my community would be a place of interest.

Overall, right now, the number of sex offenders in Richardson is down to 38 from the earlier number this year of 43.  Only 5 reside in the panhandle of Richardson, and this is the main area it's being fought to keep the distance at 2000 feet.

Come November, we'll see how it's passed!

Donna you touch on a topic that not many Realtors want to think about. I have a button mon my home page for Megans Law.

I think it is critical to allow buyers access to a legit site that allows them to research addresses of homes they are considering to buy- and move their children to!

You are welcome to see my format at    click on Megans Law

Having a law is one thing, enforcing it is another.

These lowlifes don't pay attention to society's morals why would they pay attention to a city ordinance?

You are right Kristal but there still remains quite a list of offenders that are following parole requirements to register. What kills me is they use a hotel room for an address...give me a break! They are wanderers and have some how infiltrated many other societal systems without being caught- ie. baseball coach, teacher, youth pastor , Santa!

My only effort was to promote a tool gives a parent a place to start. The police dept is something I refer a client to when they ask about the neighborhood or community crime stats.
