One more part of my miserable building saga has been completed!
Remember the mess with the Fireplace? How gross and dingy it was? Well, they came out in October and replaced the entire Fireplace... however, they did a very poor job.
They spread the mortar all over it so the entire thing then appeared with an orange smear coating. "Oh don't worry. When it dries out, in the next 4-6 weeks, it'll all be the same color."
Oh really?? I think not. After two months of letting it "dry", the fireplace still looked bad. Instead of having them tear it out and put in a new one again, we (I) opted for a faux paint. I think it completely changes the look of the room, and I love it!
What do you think? My husband absolutely hates it, but I think it'll grow on him.
If you're looking to spruce up your living room, this is a very inexpensive way to change the look to a higher end look. This is also a good idea when putting your house on the market to sell. Your house won't look like the other 20 houses the buyers are looking at.

Donna, it looks a lot better. I don't understand why the hubby doesn't like it.
~ Life is Good ~
Husbands don't understand high style :)....I like it a lot!
I love it! Did you do this? I need mine done too. It's been white this 5 years.
Roy, He likes "white". I bought new bath rugs yesterday to replace the white ones, and he just stared at them. What he doesn't know, is when he's out of town in April, I'm painting the bathroom the same color as the new rugs!! Surprise!!! LOL
Karen, I know, right?!
Loreena, Thanks! No, the fireplace company who screwed up the install hired out the painter. It takes about 3-4 hours to do and costs around $400-500. Watching this guy do it, I could have done it myself, but free is free... If you do it yourself, it look VERY little paint, as you're mostly spreading it on very thin with a sponge, so less than $20.
I can't imagine why he hates it - I think it's gorgeous!!!

Donna - I think that is a masterful "Before" and "After." Great job!! I am a husband and I love it. :-)
Donna - I agree with your husband...it looks like my fireplace at my house which was done to the style in the early '90s. I think it's a little dated looking myself....but its what you think that matters.
Donna...I like the faux painting on the fireplace. Definitely looks a lot better. Hopefully it will grow on your hubby.
Debi, He's a man.
Rick, Thanks!
Paul W, You're kidding right? The style, in my area, in the 90's was either brick that matched the exterior brick or 8" tile surround. Cast stone wasn't popular until after 2000 and faux painting it became popular a couple of years ago. Definitely not "dated" in my area.
Rebecca, Thanks, and I hope so!
I think it looks great, Donna! It looks very classic.

I like the finish on the fireplace.
PS there are million homes in Florida with the same type of finish.
Good luck and success.

That color almost makes that look like marble from afar. I love the look of faux paint! Textured paints are nice as well.
Donna, I love it. Your husband will come around.
Donna - I love it!
Hi Donna, Just Beautiful. You knew the right thing to do, did it and now a wonderful personalized fireplace and mantle. 1st class and so well done.
Donna, I think it looks a lot better!
Donna, I'm with you; I like it.
Hey, Donna. I love how it looks. Like you stated, your husband will grow to love it. Great job, Jim
Holly, Thanks!
Lou, Maybe Florida started the trend way back when.
Taylor, Yep, it does!
Missy, I hope so!
Michelle, Thanks!
William, Thanks! Now, if only he would listen to me for everything around the house!
Cannon, Thanks!
Marlene, Thank you!
Jim, Thanks, and I hope so!
Donna I like the before, Ceil just looked and she likes the after. Just two more opinions. Glad you finally got what you liked and that is what is important. (C&C)
Hi Donna... I can't believe how many issues you have had with this house! Just goes to show, if it happened to you, it can happen to anyone!
Donna,
I like it but for a while faux painting on walls was popular.
Hope this one lasts but no big loss if it doesn't.
