Lake Travis Austin TX is currently ABOVE its average lake level!! Austin TX, along with Central Texas Hill Country as a whole, has been in a two year drought. Lake Travis sustained at the beginning, but the Summer of 2009 was hard. By early September, this is what Lake Travis looked like at my family's cove. Absolutely NO water, as levels were around 625 feet!
It is just a few months later, and as of this past weekend, Lake Travis is now over 670 feet!! And the better news? It's raining today, and will rain most of the week!! This will bring Lake Travis up even further to help ensure lake levels will be perfect for AquaPalooza 2010 on Lake Travis.

Donna ---- I know you are so pleased to have the water up in Lake Travis -- it can really be hard on property values.
Donna - That is great news. We experience a bad drought here in Raleigh a couple of years ago (we are fine now) but I always wondered why don't they get earth movers to scoop the dry lake beds deeper to hold more water when the rains do come back. Maybe it's an environmental thing or is the cost too great?
Great news! see dryed up lakes really makes me sad, here is Florida its the same thing however with this winter we are having, lots of rain is hitting our lakes, this is good news.

Thats good news. I would have assumed we were back to normal (or above) with all this rain we receiving lately. Its sad how dry it was though.
We have had a decent share of rain this year also! It will probably take a decade for Lake Mead to reach levels that we were at a decade ago. The lake was up to the spillways when I moved here back in '97 and has slowly depleted itself from drought conditions over at least a half of a decade (plus growth!) Oh yes, and we have to water California and Arizona's desert crops too - not kidding!

My sister is outside of Austin and my Mother went there this year to enjoy the warm weather for the winter months and they said she brought the cold wet weather with her. Seems weird because my sister is always bragging about how warm it is in Texas.

It did finally stop raining when I was out of town earlier this week, but it's supposed to rain again tomorrow. I just hope it rains enough to give us green grass since the yards have been blah for a couple of years now!
