REBAR CAMP - Real Estate Bar Camp - Austin TX at Third Base on 6th street was last week. I met a lot of new people as well as saw old friends.
This was my first experience with a REBar Camp, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was told this was a little unusual this time around. There were five sessions, three groups at a time. A couple of times, there were two groups talking about the same thing at the same time.
Also, I found it very pitchy. I wasn't expecting that at all. There were companies there hosting sessions just to talk about their product. Honestly, as I am an honest person who speaks her mind, I didn't learn a single thing this day. I was there for over six hours, and didn't walk away with one new idea. I was very disappointed. I would have been extremely upset if I made the drive to another city for this like I did for RainCamp last month.
Other than the bad or unusual experience, I got in some networking and here are some pictures with some familiar faces who traveled from Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.

And you actually got work done and learned. What a great setting. On my list for 2010 - find and attend a local rebar. Any tips to use when attending.
Beautiful setting for this educational event Donna. Terrific photos. Hope you are doing well!!
Robert, Yes, I got work done with the free WiFi. When attending, keep an open mind...
Gary, Not so sure about educational, but it was nice weather to sit outside, except for the smokers sitting nearby...
Donna,
Really? Wow! That's really surprising.
Donna, I'm not sure why I didn't even realize this was going on but I guess that's just as good. I'm with Greg on this one; I'm surprised!
Yep, really surprised based on what you always read about these events!
Donna
I hope your networking turns into future business.
Good luck and success.

Greg, Marchel, and Cheryl, They were scrambling last minute to get sponsors and even get it put together. The time wasn't even finalized until a couple of days before the event. Not enough people signed up for topics, is my assumption, so it was the sponsors pitching their products.
Lou, I sure hope so!
Hi Donna... Wow! I love a networking event, but if there was no educational benefit that would have been a long trip for me. It looks like a good time, just not what the expectations were set for!
Based on what you've reported here, I would have been very upset had I made the trip. Hopefully, for you at least, those netowrking opportunities prove to bring you additional business.
Donna,
Sorry it was a bust. I do appreciate your honesty and telling it like it is.
Hi Donna,
It was certainly worth the trip from San Antonio so much to learn and so many people to meet.
Steve, Yes, it was nice, just not what the hype was all about.
Craig, I sure hope so!
Richard, I try...
Robert, I'm glad you learned something new...
Donna, I like your honesty. I am hoping to take one of the AR camps some time. Networking is great but if you spend your money to get to one and you get one pitch after another, that would be disappointing. Let the lessons learned here will be passed along for organizers to benefit from.
Greg, AR's RainCamp is definitely worth the drive!!
Tracy, That's the closest I have ever been to the capitol!
