Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Austin TX - Ranks Fifth Best Place to Retire

Austin TX - Ranks Fifth Best Place to Retire

Austin TX makes the number five spot for "100 Best Places to Retire" for 2010 according to TopRetirements.com.

austin tx skylineThis list has only been published since 2007, so it's definitely not a list that is set in its ways for years and years. However, the top four spots have been unchanged with Asheville NC, Sarasota, FL, Prescott, AZ, and Paris, TN.

Austin TX moved up to the number 5 spot from last year's number 9 spot. That's a great jump, and also goes along with the latest Forbes survey of Austin TX being the number one area of easing out of the recession. Older, retiring people like news like this.

How did TopRetirements.com create their list? It's not the most scientific as they don't track actual moves and sales. They track the amount of activity on their websites and even call it "essentially a popularity contest".  But that's ok as the more people who look into Austin TX, the more that will decide to move here.  In my business, that's great  news!

How many more lists can Austin TX be part of? Don't forget Austin TX is also Money Magazine's number 2 Best Big City to Live In!

Donna:

I wonder how all the trendy hipsters downtown would feel about this stat. Austin seems pretty hoppin' to be a retirement destination.

Austin for retirement, huh? Interesting and intriguing! Love Austn. Good weather. No state sales tax. Good medical. I can see why it made the list! Something worth considering.

Donna:  Austin truly IS a great place to retire to.  And... with all the cultural and music venues the city has to offer... it is far and above many other cities of similar size.  Keep Austin Weird !  Hmmm... sounds like a place I'd feel right at home in.

I was born in Austin but ended up here in Bryan-College Station. We too have become not only a University town but a destination for retirees.

Moving up from #9 to #5 is a nice jump over one year.
