Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Blogging is Today's "Traditional" Marketing - Another Success Story

Blogging is Today's "Traditional" Marketing - Another Success Story

Donna, Why do you spend so much time blogging?

Why?  Because that's where much of my business is coming from!

How is that possible? Shouldn't you be doing traditional marketing?

Blogging is today's tradition, and it's been tradition for the past few years as well!  Here's my latest example of how my blog works for me.

I spoke with a young family on a Friday in July driving back to Houston to close on their previous house. They mentioned they had been following my blog since January, but didn't contact me until July because they had 2 previous buyers on their Houston house who had financing problems, and they didn't want to look at houses until they knew it was a done deal. Great!  I love educated buyers!!

We scheduled an appointment to look at houses on the next Tuesday. We followed that with a couple of extras on Wednesday, and we were under contract by Friday. One week from conversation to contract!  We closed last week!

Here's what they had to say in their own words, pasted here with their permission:
I just wanted to write to let you know again how elated we are to know that this beautiful home is now officially ours!  At every turn and every decision making opportunity, I knew that we had chosen the right person to be our realtor--and realize more than ever how important it is to choose that right person.  I appreciated your knowledge, advice, and calming presence throughout the process.  I truly believe that saying that there is no such thing as luck---that luck is the result of preparation meeting opportunity.  You offered the best preparation, especially when it came to negotiating skills and your level of commitment.  The results could not be better--we were able to obtain this great investment opportunity and have the home we've dreamed of.

Thanks again and we hope to see you soon neighbor!

Active Rain payday

Why were they following my blog? Not only because of the market reports and the area information I posted, but also because they have a two year old daughter, and they related to me and my experiences with my two year old daughter. A good mix of business and family gets people to know you and like you, and people tend to work with people they like.

Great success story!  Reading posts like this one are what keeps me interested in this 'new tradition' of blogging.  Waiting on my first success story that is related to blogging.  Happy Selling!

Congrats on your closed deal. Blogging is a fairly inexpensive marketing method and you just never know who is following you, so keep it up.

Posted by DONNA SINGH (Royal LePage Connect Realty) about 8 years ago

You are right on.  Blogging brings you clients.  Also, it helps you rank higher with the search engines.

Donna, some agents already realize the benefits of blogging, some are just starting to "get it", while others almost resent the fact that this is just another way of marketing yourself.  I doubt they will ever understand.  Blogging about the benefits of blogging can be like preaching to the choir at times.

Donna:  Blogging becomes the tradition for many of us.  You just shared more proof with us.  Keep up the great work.  Huggs to Alyssa.

Donna, great story!  This will help the newbies to work more on their blogging and it will bring results when it is done right and consistently.

Congratulations. You have figured out how blogging can help you get business. How did they originally start following your blog?

Donna Good Job.  I too have had clients from AR and appreciate that they followed my blog and contacted me to be their agent

Donna, Thanks for this post. I am just starting to dip my toes in the water with blogging, so nice to hear that if I keep at it, there is a possibility of building future clients. I lived just outside of Austin for three years in the late 90's, the Anderson Mill area close to Round Rock. Loved it! Austin is a great City!

Posted by Cindy Westfall, ABR,GRI Your Tualatin & Portland Metro Real Estate (Premiere Property Group,LLC Portland Metro & Suburbs Oregon) about 8 years ago

Denise, Blogging relavant stuff about your area will bring it on!

Donna, It's inexpensive with money, but does take a bit of time...

E&C, That's the main point, as long as you know your keywords!

Malcolm, Some won't get it just like I don't get why they're doing Open Houses... different philosophies...

Karen Anne, Thanks and will definitely give Alyssa another hug as she brought these buyers in!

Rita, Exactly!

Kathy, They searched keywords in the area that I use and my blog was all over the place with market information and different activities in the area. They even noticed when I stopped blogging consistantly in my first trimester earlier this Spring.

Elizabeth, Feels great!

Cindy, That's not considered "outside" Austin anymore.  It's all part of Austin.

Congratulations for a job well done.  There's nothing like letting people get a little "in" on you through blogging. They instantly connect, know me much better. A great way to start a relationship, in my opinion.

I am glad to see you post this. Last week there was a post that said all but professional information in a blog was a waste of time. This is an example of why it is important to let some of ourselves come through in our online marketing.

As a home inspector, I understand that agents and their offices are continuously bombarded with inspectors vying for their business. So, most of my marketing, including blogging is online. So, I completely agree! Blogging and online marketing is the new, normal, tradition.

Nice!  I love hearing people say how grateful they are to their agent for helping make their dreams come true!  Beautiful picture, too!

Posted by Laurie Jarrett, REALTOR - New Braunfels, San Marcos, Texas Real Es (Keller Williams Realty Heritage-New Braunfels) about 8 years ago

Loreena, Exactly! They felt they knew me, and my daughter too!

Holly, That person doesn't know what they're talking about. An all business blog is boring and people lose interest. I have people tooning in to see the next thing Alyssa is going to do!

Kristin, Thanks!

David, Good to hear you're making the switch too.

Ellie, I know, and for them to be reading it for 7 months without me knowing... that's crazy!

Brenda, It isn't about you. It's about your market, your neighborhood, the community activities. Why does it have to be about "you" per se?

Laurie, It warmed my heart, and I'm under contract with the twin brother too!! That'll be another picture with another check!

Salute, Donna! I'm working with a buyer in California who is moving back to NJ. He found my blog and liked me before we spoke.  Why?  Because he liked the little dance of me with one of my RainChecks! Enjoy the one you're holding.

Congrats Donna! I'm going to share this article with my new agents. Great proof that this stuff works. NOW....if I could just get back on the wagon with my blogging! I always like to walk the walk if I'm going to talk the talk. I can speak from experience that when I'm actively blogging, I actively get calls. Way to go!

Posted by Dan and Amy Schuman, Luxury Home Specialists (Howard Hanna Real Estate Services) about 8 years ago

Blogging is today's 'traditional' marketing pretty much says it all, Donna.  I think the important thing that many agents should get from this is that the consumer is reading your blog.  Just because they don't comment, doesn't mean they're not there.

Hi Donna -- I love reading client testimonials, and I would hire you alone because of this one.  It's obvious you have a very smart buyer there and they were smart enough to recognize a very competent and quality REALTOR when they ran across your blog! :)

Posted by Chris Olsen, Broker Owner Cleveland Ohio Real Estate (Olsen Ziegler Realty) about 8 years ago

Hi Donna - Your story is an excellent example that shows how people may follow a blog for many months before contacting the blogger.  However, in the meantime, the potential clients are learning to understand how you work and once they contact the blogger, are often ready to get right to work on their transaction.

When someone has been reading your blog for awhile they develop a trust in your abilities.  By the time they actually get in touch it is as though they already know you.  You are right on with this - people tend to work with people they like.

It's great when a plan comes together.  I'm not sure everyone realizes the power in it.  When I'm looking for an agent to refer, of course I check out a person's website and their blogs.  If I can't learn something about them, and just see a lot of statistics and listings, then I don't get a sense of their knowledge or personality.  You obviously showed that person something more.  Good job!

Kristi, I try...

Donna - I came back because I was "brewing" a little more about your title and my lightbulb moment - "Yes, we can start new "traditions". Who's to say it must always be old, tried and true methods. New ones can become new "traditions" too as you pointed out.

Thanks for bringing this lightbulb onto me. That's why I came back.
