The City of Lakeway TX, just West of Austin, is planning on annexing approximately 1000 acres over the next ten years. You're thinking, "That's a lot of land!" Yes, it is, however, much of that land is already currently under construction with most of it going to single family homes, condos and townhomes.
Here's a map of the plan...
As you can see, The City of Lakeway has decided to stay away from moving South of Highway 71 and also into an area bordering Spicewood that is more acreage and more of a "ranching culture" than what Lakeway's city perception is.
Many think this is all a bad idea because it will just bring more traffic to the area and the road infrastructure is not suited for that. On the other side, growth is always good as long as there is a good plan in place. I'm all for adding more shopping to this area as I think we're missing a lot of that already.
I do see the concern of adding some apartments, but if we're going to be a diverse area, we need to offer diverse housing options.
Some of the communities being worked on are Rough Hollow, Lakeway Highlands, Flintrock Falls, Serene Hills, Tuscan Village, and North Lakeway Village.
