Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: The Closing Gift that Everyone Can Appreciate

The Closing Gift that Everyone Can Appreciate

Over the years, I've given many closing gifts out to my clients.  I also go back and forth about whether or not a closing gift is necessary.  If I have major surgery, my doctor doesn't give me a gift to thank me for my business.  If I go to a restaurant, I have to tip the server instead of them tipping me to thank me for my business.  When I go to the dentist, I get a $0.25 toothbrush which is impersonal since I use an electric toothbrush.

remax realtor grocery bagsWith that said, when I do give closing gifts, I like to give things that last so each time they look at it, they always think of me. Or if a friend comes over and sees it, they mention me.  I always hand out my personalized, reusable grocery bags and chip clips that have my name and contact information but those are almost party favors. There are three main gifts I've given over the years that have been better than others.  I've given personalized picture frames with their name and address. Sometimes a message like "Our First Home" engraved in it.  It sits on their fireplace mantel or office desk. It's seen everyday.  I've given travel vouchers to the Bahamas, Hawaii, Vegas, and other places.  Granted, the trip can end, but the pictures they take on those trips last a lifetime.

The best gift is the gift I've been giving over the past year.  I hooked up with a professional photographer in the Austin area and she created Gift Certificates specially for me. They are placed in a decorative box and it's for a photo shoot and a free 8X10 picture.  This is not a gift just for a traditional family.  I had a closing yesterday with an older couple and they're going to get family protraits taken with their children and grandchildren.  I had a closing a couple of weeks ago and they don't have kids, so they're getting pictures taken with their pets.  This photographer will meet you anywhere in the Austin area so you can capture the outdoor trees or rocks or whatever other nature you want in your pictures.  She'll meet you at your house if that's what you want.

I think giving the gift of pictures is a great gift for any situation, and I think it's a keeper!  My clients can make their pictures as personal and as fun as they want, and they'll always thank me for this moment in time. And for full disclosure, I get nothing in return from this photographer. I still have to pay for my photo shoots, and there are no referral fees or anything like that involved.

You said it all Donna...give what lasts and is a reminder of you....reason....future business/referrals....that's why you give the closing gifts.

I LOVE the idea of the grocery bags. A great gift to my Baltimore City dwellers as the grocery stores charge per bag now.

Great idea! And the photographer can be a good source for referrals. Think about it, most folks get portraits with a change in family status. Best wishes!

Hi Donna~ We have reusable grocery bags that we purchased for other reasons, but now that you mention giving it to our clients for closing I'm thinking that's a great idea maybe combined with a grocery store gift card to restock their refrigerator!

Something reusuable and "earthy friendly" particularly where they think of you Donna is an excellent thought.

That is a wonderful idea. I am stumped at what to get my buyers...maybe a six pack....just kidding!

I like the idea of the photographer and the photo as the closing gift. This will always provide many great memories in so many ways.

Very thoughtful idea, Donna. Yes, we always want our clients to remember us - for anything and everything they need related to Real Estate.

I once gave Waterford salt and pepper shaker.  The client did send me a thank you note which read.  Thank you for the nice glass salt and pepper shakers.

That's a great idea, Donna!  As you said, something that's a subtle reminder of you every time they look at it over the years.

The bag is a great idea. I've seen these used quite a bit lately and I really like the added touch with the Chip Clip.

Hi Donna...I have liked the Grocery Bag since I first saw it at NAR in 2007. I used to give a bottle of Nice wine, Quality chocolates and Roses. Lately I listen to my Clients, and do something Special that i know they would like.

Donna-  Those re-usable grocery bags are pretty popular now a days.   I know some of the groceries stores in Dallas will count the number of bags you bring in the store and subtract .20 cents per bag which could had up to a couple of dollars saved.  I like the marketing piece, pretty creative!

I'm chuckling as it seems more people like the reuseable bags than the photography idea... Maybe I need to order more bags...

Nice idea. I always struggle with this. I know a lot of Realtors that don't give anything and sometimes others show up at closing with huge baskets.

I go round and round with closing gifts, have never quite figured out what I best like to give.  I like your photo idea!
