Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Is that Glass too Clean?

Is that Glass too Clean?

I was showing houses yesterday, and I had another "Can I post this on my blog?" moment with a buyer... he laughed and said it was ok.

It's common to have screen doors or glass doors on the front and back doors of a house. This allows you to leave your main door open, while having a door closed that lets in some natural light or a nice breeze on a cool day.

austin tx homes buyersDuring the tour of this house, we go out to the garage. Our eyes acclimate to the darker lighting in there.  We turn to walk into the house, and WHAM!

I'm thinking, "what just happened"?  I see nothing in front of us, but my buyer stopped cold.  As he backed up, I found myself pointing at the glass door and saying, "I can see your face on the glass..." We both started laughing.  He said he was quite embarrassed, but I assured him he had no reason to be.

Why was there a glass door on the garage door? Neither of us remembered opening the door to go out to the garage.  We did have to go out there again to look at the backyard, but this time, I moved the slider at the top that props the door open.  Fool us once...

So, Mr and Mrs Sellers, maybe there is such a thing as "too clean"... maybe it's better to leave some streaks or smudges on the glass door to help ensure everyone sees it there.  Yes, clean and shiny might be best, but I'm hoping my Buyer doesn't have a headache! Yes, I wiped off his face-print, but maybe I should have left it!!

Donna with many VERY CLEAN sliding glass doors you put a decal of some kind there to alert someone that there is glass. This happens more than you think.

Donna,

That's a great story and certainly perfect for AR!

How funny! I recently sold a home where the homeowner was proud of her cleaning. The inspector marked the home as not having double pane windows for an FHA loan! I would have missed it but I heard him comment as he was typing the report. I corrected him and said he windows were so clean that he didn't notice the 2nd pane. I think the glass can be too clean! :)

I'm with Gary on this one Donna.  Some kind of decal on the door would be a good idea.  (just not the Dallas Cowboys Star)

I've walked into a clean glass door myself once, I did not realize the owner closed it behind him... my clients children were tickled.

Wow, the sellers get credit for clean glass but a glass door on an indoor garage entry - that's unexpected!  Glad your buyer had a sense of humor about it

Donna it does happen often. It has happened to me more then once when I'm doing a home inspection.  We have three sets of glass sliders in our house and Ceil has a decal on each one of them; especially with the grandkids around. They will walk right into the door; seems they are always looking behind them or to the side. Be careful with your kids of you have sliders.

Have a nice weekend.

Donna

Hay doesn't everyone in Texas have a glass door in the garage?

Good luck and success.

That's a really dumb place for a glass door. I'm sure they have some "logical" reason for it. Poor guy.

Homes we view are great blog fodder. This one is unique.

A decal makes sense, however, people put  up glass doors so they can see through them, and a decal makes an eyesore...  No idea why it was on the door from the house into the garage.

I’ve learned over the years that when I’m about to walk through a doorway that has a glass door, I lead with my hand. It’s prevented many accidents since I walked through my first glass door many years ago.
