Cookie-Cutter Houses - Austin TX New Home Construction

Austin TX New Home Construction is going strong. As I reported last week, there are 23,000 new homes planned for the NW Austin area. Even down in the SW area, things are going hot and heavy as well.  Bee Cave is growing tremendously and the neighborhoods of Falconhead and Falconhead West are almost complete.

One of the biggest complaints I get from buyers is that they don't want a "cookie-cutter" house in a cookie cutter neighborhood.  I live in Falconhead West and I've been watching the construction for three years now. I've been very proud of the builders for trying to make the houses look different. The houses all have some kind of brick, stucco, stone, or a combination of these materials. Every so often, the stucco colors look very similar as does the white limestone, but the houses will look different that's ok...

Here is a picture of a house just completed. It is a single story with stucco on the top and stone on the bottom.

The stucco colors are in the same family of color. The stone at the bottom is virtually the same shade.  They both have the garage on the right side with the entry in the middle.  What's wrong with these two houses looking so similar?  They're right next door to each other!!

This sometimes happens when you're dealing with two different builders and they aren't letting the other builder know what's going on that lot, however, these two houses were built by the same builder at the exact same time. They were each at the same stage of building through the entire process. Landscaping was just put in last week and even the landscaping looks the same.

I drive by these houses everyday because they're at the end of the street. I shake my head each time.  What's worse is that the house right next door to the one on the right is also a one story home with stucco and stone, by a different builder, but the colors are significantly different where they don't look "alike" by the color choices.

No matter where you go, you're always going to have some kind of "cookie-cutter" situation in a planned community.

Wow Donna.  I would always be pulling into my neighbor's driveway by accident!

Those two homes are very beautiful and resemble the ones being built in our side of the world. But what a foo pa to build two almost exact homes right next to each other.... you know someone had to get fried over that one.

Donna, these are gorgeous and I do so love Austin. What made you decide to move there anyway? I remember the post you wrote about numerology and the address you were choosing. How has that worked for you? Just curious.
