Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Closing on a House, Fire Alarms, 9 Months Pregnant, Oh My...

Closing on a House, Fire Alarms, 9 Months Pregnant, Oh My...

Today is not unlike most days at the end of the month. I've had to coordinate four closings, which one isn't happening because the lender decided to ask for more stuff at the 11th hour... but that leaves me with three.  The first one at 11:30am went off without a hitch, eazy peazy.

My next closing was right afterwards at the same title company so I just sat tight and waited for my buyers.  Mrs. Buyer is due any day, so I met them at the door to the building and walked with them to the closing room.

They have two liens, so two stacks of paper. We're on our way through the first stack, about halfway, and all of a sudden the fire alarm goes off. We're talking noises, strobe lights, and then some automated recording telling people to vacate the building.  Really? Are you serious?

The office is a bunch of glass windows for lots of natural light. We didn't see any other people vacating so we signed a few more papers... and then masses of people start coming into the lobby.  I guess we better go too.

We gathered all our stuff in case we weren't allowed back in the building, made copies of their driver's licenses so that wouldn't be an issue for funding, and we all piled in the car to continue signing docs. It was 105 degrees outside, so we weren't going to be without air conditioning!

If something else could go wrong, it would be the water breaking and this baby being born with all this added excitement, but at least there was a firetruck right on sight and they're trained for emergencies like this if it's needed...

Talk about customer service. Not only will the title company come to you for a closing, but they'll sign you right in your car with the AC on and everything.

I got out to take a picture and told them they would see themselves on my blog. The title company wants to put the picture in their lobby as well.

I reminded them that if something didn't go wrong, they wouldn't have a story to tell. Now they have a great story about how they bought their very first house!! They'll never forget it!!

It's one you won't forget either! I hope you're keeping a scrap-book, or at least a file with your AR blogs tucked in.

But... you didn't tell us. Was there really a fire?

Wow, Donna!  This tops anything that happened during my exciting day!  When I saw the 9 months pregnant thing, I thought, is this Donna's third, already?

Posted by Patricia Kennedy, Home in the Capital (RLAH Real Estate) over 8 years ago

David, It was!

Lisa, Thank you too!

Ron, All my transactions have some story to tell. It's not drama-free working with me!

A&M, Very good to be busy, not complaining!!

Cindy, I did remind her that I was two weeks early with my first and she freaked a little. I just smiled and told her to stay calm!

Jim, Yes, it's good when they can front some of the work!

Marte, No, there wasn't a fire! And no scrap book, but tons of memories in my brain!

Niki, Very crazy, but two PAYDAY checks appeared at my door this evening!

Rodney, If the AC wasn't working, we had two other cars to choose from!!

Pat, LOL!!!  NOOOOO!!!  But the closer was like, "Weren't you in my office with buyers when you were that pregnant?  And having contractions?"  YEP!

First of all, good for you for all of the closings and thankfully some actually closed.  Don't you just love those requests from underwriting in the 11th hour?  Ugh!

Donna,  That's customer service.   Now one question for you, between the signing of the first and second loan docs in the car did ya'll keep signing and go to Starbucks drive thru for a HOUSE coffee.   I know it's a corny joke.

Bill, Come to my world as my deals always have drama!

Ann, Never dull!

Debbie, It's definitely going in my Magazine I send out!

Paula, The other deal finally closed at 5:30 tonight... miserable!

Evelyn, I'll trade a couple!

Alan, Nothing but the best!

Stephanie, Cute. No, we didn't. Too many people leaving so it would have been hard to get back with the firetrucks there.

Karen, I deliver the best!

Ruby, Thanks!

Kathy, One day, I'm going to be able to put my nose to my toes.

Scott, And, the firetruck took forever to show up, probably 15 minutes.

That's a really an amazing closing - Your couple looked soooo happy - fire alarms not withstanding.  And you made it through without an emergency trip to the L&D.

Donna - Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor 105 degree weather will keep these people from getting their house.

Everybody had a memorable story to tell, it's always a lot of drama when you are in the middle of it, but afterwards it's much better to look back on how everything came togeher and ended well.
