Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: ActiveRain - 1Million Point Club Milestone

ActiveRain - 1Million Point Club Milestone

ActiveRain has been a huge part of my business and life for the past 5 years. Over the weekend, I hit a huge milestone. I became the 18th person to hit 1,000,000 points.  I should have hit a million several months ago, but being pregnant last year, and then having the baby this year, I slacked in my blogging, but excuses aside, I came back at full steam last month.

austin tx top producer real estateIt's often asked what ActiveRain points mean, and you'll receive several different responses.  Russell Ray recently posted what points meant to him, and he did a break down, and I thought that was a great way to look at things.  He said his points were worth about 8 cents each.  Mine are a little more than that.

For nearly 3 years, I posted about Dallas area stuff. I moved to Austin full time in April 2009, and it wasn't until then that I started posting about Austin area stuff.  Because of my move, I have not had the privilege of my local posts becoming older and watching the Google juice work behind the scenes. I've had to continuously post new content about the area to continuously get the search engines to see my content as useful since they used to see me posting Dallas content. With the change of direction, I saw a slower rise to the top, if that makes sense.

ActiveRain boils down to these numbers for me:
To date, not including buyers and sellers I'm currently working with, I've CLOSED $6,308,720 in real estate volume directly related to my activities on ActiveRain. I have had 27 closed transactions, about 5 1/2 a year. This equates to approximately $189,261.60 in direct income.

I've posted a mere 1317 blog posts. Of the other 17 people in the 1M club, all but 4 have posted over 2000 posts, and three of those four are well into the 1900's, with one at 1890 posts.  I mention this because some people think it's the pure volume of posts that get you to this point, but it's not. It's about quality, and with quality comes other people wanting to post comments on your posts which helps take things to another level.

Now for the money breakdown, because I always tell people it's not about the amount of points you have earned, but it's about the amount of money you've been able to put in your pockets from your efforts of those points.  With 1317 posts, that's $143.71 a post.  With 62 featured posts, that's $3052.61 a feature.  With 1,000,000 points, that's $0.19 a point.

Deb Brooks asked a couple of days ago if anyone would sell their profile, points, and position here on ActiveRain. I put a $1M price tag on my profile.  Why? Because if I can make almost $200k in fives years for posts that haven't fully matured, my volume should grow exponentially from here, and the person who buyers my profile would gain all those rewards, and in a quicker period of time. To reap the rewards of my efforts, I asked for $1M.  That's approximately $1 a point, and it's well worth it!

And since I'm all about "Full Disclosure", wanna know how I learned about ActiveRain?  In 2004, I joined a little company called HouseValues, later changing their name to MarketLeader.  They had a "Master Mind Forum" where you could post Best Practices and other stuff. It became a tight community and we all shared a lot of things. In 2006, many people were leaving for greener pastures.  Jay Thompson found ActiveRain (I'm not sure how) and the news spread. I became member #471 out of the current 214,063.  For those of you who know me, you know how I feel about MarketLeader as a company, but without going there, I admit that if I had not ventured into their business all those years ago, I don't know when I would have found ActiveRain and how different my business would be today! So, in a round-about way, "Thank you for screwing up, HouseValues! You made me see the light was much better and brighter (and less expensive) on the outside!"

That's great, Donna.  Congratulations.  And thanks for the breakdown in points.  It gives us something specific to strive for.

And I don't think we'll begrudge you time off from blogging for pregnancy and spending time with your newborn.  Life still has to happen somewhere between the blogs.  Congratulations on that as well.

Congratulations Donna, I became a member in September 2006.  I have a different take on the points and their worth.  I don't blog or comment all that much (typing skills suck) however the few  points garnered over 5 years, to me are a money value as well....what I have learned and implemented in my business is priceless, of which most of it, I read right here on Active Rain.

WOW I didn't realize the power I have of making yet another millionaire!

Here is Donna's comment that created a millionaire. ''I have to use cruise control because the cops like to get you at the bottom of hills... however, cruise doesn't work when you're in a free falling hill. My car always speeds up...

And with this comment, 1M...''

You need 10 of these cookies...but in the meantime...could you please add a zero to make it a million points?

Donna:  Major Congratulations on hitting the Million Point Mark.  I am very proud of you.  And yes... your accomplishment means all that much more in view of your doing it with hundreds fewer posts that most of the others over the Million mark.

BUT... you also have done so well, money and transaction-wise... in my opinion, because you have NOT only written about real estate nuts and bolts stuff.  You have shared "the personal" with us.  We have gotten to know you.  But, so have your "public" readers.  Through those personal posts... many of them about your children... we have come to "like" you.

It's one thing to "like" someone on Facebook... but growing to know, like and trust someone through their sharing of themselves on their blog... is something else.  Thanks so much for "mixing it up."     "suggested"

I don't know of any way to track my income from blogging, because I have several blogs + my web site. But, my stats are as follows:

I started blogging on AR in May 2009. My 2010 production trippled that of 2009. My 2011 production has already exceeded my 2010 production, and it's not yet October.

I love it when I answer the phone and the caller says, "I found you on the internet."

Donna - Congrats on these outstanding achievements. Just thought we'd remind you that it was you who invited us to Active Rain oh so many years ago. So thank you for that in case we never got to tell you in person.

Congrats on your well deserved and outstanding contributions to the network.

We to were with House Values back then as well. Maybe that's how you found us and invited us? Cant remember. Anyways,

Way to go girl.

Wow, that is really impressive.  $.19/point is pretty great.  I'm curious, people that get business from Active Rain is it primarily referrals from other agents on AR or people that specifically contact you because of your blog?  So far I have gotten business from AR, but it was before I was a Rainmaker and blogging regularly and was just from the referral network so I'm curious what people see more of.

I was looking at my state ranking the other day with the same slant... Many have posted much MORE than me ... and I don't have a tiny amount of invitee points.  So I must be doing something right.  I don't have near the revenue from my blogs as you, but I have enough that I'll keep going.  Of course I don't have 5+ years in yet either.

Hi Donna, Congratulations on the 1,000,000 mark.  I spoke with you in the summer about your article on personal blogging, and now I am writing both hyper-local blogs about real estate and personal blogs.  The first one I wrote was about the eight dogs I have had since I married.  Then I started taking pictures from my picture albums of my children when they were born back in 1989 and 1993, and I have lots of ideas about that.  I am becoming a mad blogger.  I have gotten about 2 calls per month on my blogs, though I have many on the first page.  Nothing has turned into business yet.  I have connected my website to my blogs and it, too, is at the top of many searches.  I'm not sure why I can't say I've had the same success.  I may call you again soon.  Anyway, I am proud of you.  I just got a call from MarketLeader.  I am going to have to speak to you about this off-line.  I will search for some of your blogs about this.  I got the impression you aren't that happy about them and I just got a free 2.5 month trial.  I will call you soon.  Have a great day, Ellen

Wow! I wasn't expecting to see the feature this morning... I know I said I would respond to each person, but with 130 thus far, I just can't, so a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone, and I'll answer questions others have asked in their comments.

Pam, Thank you so much... being a mom is awesome!

Margaret, It was great talking with you yesterday. Thanks!!

Bryant, I didn't even mention the knowledge I've learn as I guess some of that has resulted in closed transactions too...

Karen Anne, You are very sweet, thank you so much! I know many people don't like the "personal" part of blogging, but it's gotten me so much business, why stop now!?

Ed, It was just a "little" childbirth... TWICE!!

Maggie, Be careful... it's hard being like me... I cause lots of waves in those ripples... or is it ripples in those waves... being different is always harder.

Tracy, Call/email anytime...

John, Since there were about 100 people in the room when I took my test, you could possibly have been one of those people that lovely October day in 2000. I welcome all referrals, and I'll just add them to my calculated volume!!

Christine, That's TWO babies in between :)... I just didn't blog from the delivery room the second time like I did the first time.

Lisa, Yes, I remembered you from HV days... hope you're seeing some success on your blog.

John & Kasey, A few from referrals from AR people, but the majority from people finding my blog posts. One saw my Topsy Turvey tomato plant adventure and followed my relocation to Austin, and another has a daughter my daughter's age, and they were new to Austin and used my blog to get ideas of things to do with her. They related personally... and then several from my market reports.

Silvia, You are very right!!

Erik, Reading helps you learn new things, but the writing helps being new people directly to you.

Ellen, That's great that people have started to respond to your posts.  ML is a different story, and it's on my blog somewhere in early 2009.

Michael, Raymond sells real estate now, with his wife as a team. They don't do much blogging...

Jim & Maria, Those were the days...

Kent, Sorry, but you're one of the few getting a personal response. Everyone else is getting a huge, general THANK YOU!!

Coleen, THank you! And it's the numbers, the money, that I find to be way more important than the 1M. I hope others can see that as they blog.

David, Yes, being a MOM is very important to me, and without this job, I wouldn't be able to take their sick days very well like I had to last week...

Chris Ann, I pointed out how I found AR because just like we like to know from our clients how they found us, it's important for AR to know how people found them.  Maybe that's an entire post of its own...

Posted by Elizabeth Byrne, Arlington Virginia Real Estate (Keller Williams Realty) almost 9 years ago

Elizabeth, I thought Blogging was working? Why are you trying to schedule separate time where it takes you away from family? Blogging is just like any other "marketing". You block time for it just like if you were creating a marketing piece to mail out or put in a magazine, you know, the "Old School" marketing.

Congratulations, Donna.  That is truly a remarkable achievement!  As a self-confessed uncommitted blogger with only 85,000 points, I am impressed by those who make it happen.  Great job!

This was an interesting post to bring back to life. Someone sent me a message about it, and I had to read it to remember what it was about. My numbers didn't grow exponentially like expected, because Google and all the search engine spiders changed and it's been harder and harder to get on page one, but I'm still there and so is all my old content. I get emails often from people asking about things.

I'll still take $1 a point, if there are any takers...
