Lake Austin - Summer isn't Over in Austin TX - Boat Broke Down - Sea Tow to the Rescue

Summer decided to make another appearance here in Austin TX as we hit Triple Digits again this weekend.  I had this brilliant idea to go to Lake Austin because why would many people be out on the water after Labor Day??

happy baby

Wow!  We were so totally and completely wrong!  There were so many boats on the water, it was hard to do much of anything.

I took one short set of wakeboarding on my new CWB Edge Wakeboard Bindings, Mike did one set on the Wakeskate, and the rest was playing around on the tube with friends, and showing them how to wakeboard and surf behind the boat.

All of the public boat ramps for Lake Travis are closed so we were forced to go to Lake Austin since Lake Austin is a constant-level lake (river).

The night ended in a way no one on a boat wants it to end... we had to call for a tow... the fuel pump gave out, but which one, we're still trying to figure it out.  I had my 9 1/2 month old baby with us, and NO ONE would offer us a tow back to the boat ramp.  I thought Austin people were supposed to be nice and generous, but holding my baby while pleading for help did nothing... About an hour into our wait, a gentleman offered to take us to our cars, but that didn't help get the boat back. I sent my friends with them as they didn't need to wait any longer. They were patient enough.

Then, about 2 hours into our wait, this family finished eating and offered to tow us, but right when we hooked up with them, the Sea Tow company finally showed up.  For an afternoon adventure that started at 2pm and was supposed to end about 6pm, we got home after 10... it was quite an adventure for the kids, but they were such good troopers.  I did find a lady with a baby with Landon's exact birthday, and she gave me some formula for him so that kept him happy a little longer.

Here was our Lake Austin Adventure in pictures...

The Restaurant we stopped at for dinner, Sky Shores Cafe... and where the boat didn't want to leave as it wouldn't start back up... the live music was nice as we sat waiting.

Donna-Looks like a beautiful lake! Enjoy the end of summer like days we are getting pelted with wind and rain in the Seattle area today.

Looks like you had a hard day at the lake. LOL.

You know, I've never been in the Lake. Where I come from, I'm not used to green water.... It's going to take a little of getting used to.

Adrian, It's 102 again today!!  I thought summer was over, but apparently not!  We would all welcome rain so we can get back to Lake Travis!

Loreena, It was very hard at the end trying to get back.. Most of the green is just reflection from either trees on the top or algea on the bottom. The water is fairly clear for the most part. You should head over to Lewisville Lake. It's fun!

Donna, Your children are beautiful!  Sounds like a lovely Sunday, even with the tow of your boat.  Hard to know, once you are on the water, what will go wrong with a boat engine.  My Son has a 44' boat that they take out to Long Island Sound and luckily, it has been mechanically sound.  These are the memories that will keep you smiling, when you are older and have Grandchildren.

Frances, At least it happened at the end of the day and while we were tied up at a dock. Not sure what would have happened if we were in the middle of the lake...

Donna:  What a great day on the lake.  Row, row, row your boat... <impish grin>

I love all the pictures, but my favorite is the one with Alyssa and Landon sitting.  Alyssa looks like she knows she's the boss lady, and Landon is looking at her thinking... "you tell 'em sis, you tell 'em."

What wonderful memories you are making.  Just simply wonderful.  Take care...

Karen Anne, He is like a sponge and soaks in everything Alyssa does and says... it's going to be scary!
