Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Austin TX Ranks 5th - Best Place for Young Adult Relocation

Austin TX Ranks 5th - Best Place for Young Adult Relocation

Where are today's Young Adults, aged 25-34, moving to? Austin TX is ranked 5th!  Personally, I think they would be ranked higher if they included the ones who moved here first for college and then stayed here, but alas, that wasn't the criteria used.

Brookings Institution studies where young adults are moving.  They say that prior to the current recession, from 2005-2007, people were moving to places like Phoenix, Arizona and Riverside, CA.  Since the Recession, from 2008-2010, young adults are picking different cities, and what they termed "cool cities".

austin tx ranks 5th relocation for young adults

Austin TX isn't just a "cool city", but we have a very large Technology sector, and we all know technology changes day in and day out, so that's probably a timeless industry to be involved in.

How many young adults moved to Austin TX? 7099, according to the Brookings' report.  There are three main Texas metro areas that made the top 7 list. Texas is definitely fairing well with jobs and cost of living making it a very attractive place to move to.

Here are the other top 7 cities:
1 - Denver, CO - 10,429
2 - Houston, TX - 9,366
3 - Dallas, TX - 8,731
4 - Seattle, WA - 7,421
5 - Austin, TX - 7,099
6- Washington, DC - 7,044
7- Portland, OR - 6,656

Well, since my husband went to UT I would have to say it is a cool city.  Our families live in Houston, but we are still partial to the West Coast... Love your area too.

I was thinking Austin would make the list and guessed Dallas was still there Donna. The traffic congestion in all these hot spots is getting tougher and tougher each year though so MAYBE the very young can tolerate it better than the veterans in life's later years.

You are surrounded by the "Z Generation". That should keep you young too.

The roads are getting worse and worse, but at least in Dallas and Houston, a highway is actually a highway, whereas in Austin, it's a 2 lane road with 60mph speeds, but a traffic light every 1/2 mile... ridiculous!

Donna - you are right, it is a great place for young people to be weird. I think it's a great place to retire too, with the lake living.  Have a great day!
