Austin TX ranks #2 for the top 5 Fastest Growing US Metro areas, by percentage. This includes the entire Austin area and it's suburbs and surrounding areas of Round Rock down to San Marcos. To me, San Marcos is not part of Austin, but the census has included it. It's all of Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell Counties.
What does this mean for the Austin area? It means Austin added 67,230 people in a 15 month period from when the last census was done through July 2011. That's 4482 people a month! No, not everyone is moving here from other states. Some of the growth is that there are more births than deaths. According to the Census Bureau, migration into Travis County attributed to 61.5% of the population increase.
Texas has gained more people than any other state! Four Texas counties are on the Nation's Top 10 list for most populous counties. Among the 50 fastest growing counties, The Lone Star State has 12 of them! Of all the Nation's 20 fastest growing metro areas, four were in Texas: As mentioned, Austin is ranked #2. Then there is San Antonio at #16, DFW at #17, and Houston at #18.
Go Texas! And go Austin! Last summer, "they" estimated that Austin saw about 100 people move here a day! That's a lot of growth...
