Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Cowboys Retain Jason Garrett as Assistant Head Coach

Cowboys Retain Jason Garrett as Assistant Head Coach

Jason Garrett helped the Cowboys break several records and after interviewing and being offered Head Coaching job elsewhere, decided to remain with the Cowboys as the Assistant Head Coach.

This position comes at a price of about $3.5 million!  Almost as much as the Head Coach.

Personally, I really like Jason Garrett.  I loved him when he played for the Cowboys.  I hated it when Jason got the Cowboys through the Playoffs and then they allowed Aikman to play the final game.  Yes, Aikman was the starter and he was coming back from an injury, but he was out for a lot of games, and Jason deserved to play. I was very disappointed when he left the Cowboys.

I was very excited when he returned.  However, to go after a Head Coaching job after just 3 years in a coaching position is a little premature.  I think he needs a little more experience before taking on that job.

He did say that he definitely wants to be a Head Coach at some time, but that his home is in Dallas for now.  Good choice, Jason!

Here's more on the story.

Donna - Thanks for posting this.  I heard the story from a friend earlier, and I told him that they would probably pay just about the same as Wade Phillips.  I am also happy to see that he is staying.  Maybe he can remain long enough to take Wade's spot when he retires.

Hi Donna:  This is really great news for Cowboys fans.  Jason has had a fabulous impact on Tony Romo, and on all the Cowboys.  And, Jason, that's a great idea.  Keep him here, and groom him for the head coaching job.  Thanks for sharing.  Donna, I hope you and the baby are doing well.  Take care.

Jason, Not sure if he would stay until Wade retires, but an average Dallas coach only lasts about 4 years, so he might only need to wait 3 more years to take over.

Karen, Alyssa is doing great, thank you.  She was 2 months on Wednesday!  Time is flying by!

That is a lot of money for an assistant head coach.  I did not realize the salaries were quite that high for staff.

Donna:  From what was said tonight on the late news, it sounds like they are thinking about grooming Jason for being the head coach... and having Wade bring him along.  It appears that the two of them are a very good match... lots of quality team spirit between them.  Cool... we need that.

If I am remembering correctly, wasn't it Jason Garrett who took over and started a Thanksgiving Day game for the Cowboys one year, and won the game in convincing fashion ?  What year was that ?
