Dallas' SMU Campus to get Bush Library

SMU: Home of the George W. Bush Presidential Center

It's official, the George W Bush library is coming to the campus of SMU, Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, TX.  There has been much heated debate about this library and what it would stand for.  The campus was split on wanting it and not wanting it.

This will be the 13th Presidential Library across the country.  Construction is to start in 2009 and they expect it to take five years to complete.  That sounds like quite a project!

SMU is also where the First Lady, Laura Bush, graduated from.  Dallas is also going to be where the Bush family makes their home after his term is up.  There have been rumors on what part of Dallas he'll live in.  He used to live in a very modest home in Prestonwood.  I'm sure he'll be moving his price range up a few hundred thousand dollars from that home.

Here is the rest of the article posted.

They can always tell him to go build it in New Haven, CT. That's where he was born. He's a Yalee not a Texan.

SMU is also the home of the greatest college football coach, June Jones.  Hawaii will miss him.

David, I have no idea why SMU was even in the running except he lived here and once owned the Rangers.

Randy, I didn't realize that had been finalized.  My husband wasn't even aware of it.  Maybe SMU will start winning some big games.

David, GWB was born in New Haven CT in 1946 and in 1948 the family moved to Texas. Most people don't remember the first two years of their lives.  His Texas childhood is most likely the childhood he identifies with, he has a Texas wife, his parents live in Texas, so why would he want to build his presidential library in New Haven, the place where he spent the first 2 years of life and where he later attended college?  I think he made the better choice in identifying with his Texas roots rather than the state where he was born and lived for a short while.  ~He wasn't born in Texas but he got here as fast as he could.  :-)

I was surprised that he won't be retiring to his ranch.  Maybe he is planning on a city home and a country home.  I guess time will tell.

I would be disappointed if GWB lived somewhere else other then Texas. I'm sure his roots are here in Texas along with family and friends. I am surprised he is not retiring to the ranch in Crawford. May need to be closer to a major airport for some reason or other.

Thanks for the update Donna
