Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Alyssa Can't Catch a Break!

Alyssa Can't Catch a Break!

Dang!  My poor girl... she had her 9 month appt today, and it actually went really well until the very end.

First, she has had fluid in her ears since she was about 2 months old.  We had surgery scheduled for this coming Friday to get tubes in her ears.  We wanted to wait until after this appt to have her ears checked again in case we needed to cancel that surgery.  The awesome news is that her ears have cleared up, so we get to cancel her surgery...

The bad news is that she's anemic.  Yes, my 9 month old daughter has to take iron drops to supplement.  Can you believe it?  She drinks an iron baby formula and is still not getting enough iron, and she also loves her green veggies, so I'm very confused.  She has to take iron drops for 6 weeks and then gets tested again. If she's ok, she has to continue the iron drops for another 6 weeks to make sure she's maintaining the level...

On another note, she's 26 1/2 inches tall which is the 25th percentile.  My hungry girl is now 18 pounds!!  She LOVES her food, especially pasta and peas, and she's leaped out of the 12th percentile from her last appt, to the 40th percentile.  She's getting big!

Anyway, overall, she's healthy and happy.  No surgery, which is a relief, but we're taking iron drops.  Keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well.

Oh, and she has 7 teeth and loves to gnaw on carrots, but wasn't sure if she prefered the dog's toy or the real thing...

Donna~ MY how fast beautiful Allysa is growing....  I promise you, the time passes way to quickly, our kids grow up way too fast.... I hope she prefers the real carrots over the dogs carrot :)

How cute!  It's funny that of all the toys out there she likes the dog's.  My puppy's favorite toy is a 2 liter bottle with dried beans in it.

What a darling child!  I love the carrots.  Before you know it she will be all grown up.

What a cutie! If you end up having to have the tubes, don't worry! it is no big deal. I was really glad we did it for my son who is now 4. he had 6 ear aches before the tubes and none after. I wish we had done it sooner!

She is adorable.  Those iron drops can cause constipation so be careful to keep her eating those veggies and fruits.  Good luck with her.

Vickie, I never knew time would fly THIS fast!  She's been around longer than I was pregnant.  Dang!

Randall, Yeah, my mom washes the dogs' toys so they're clean when we come over.  Good thing they go in the washer easily.

Leolinda, Thanks!

Raylene, Yeah, we (I) know it's not too big of a deal because she'll feel so much better, but it was her age that scared us.  Going under at 6 months was a hard decision, and we said no.  We opted to wait until she was a little older, and it's a good thing we waited as they cleared up on their own.  We'll schedule surgery upon her next infection.

Paddy, Thank you.  And yes, she'll be eating lots of fruits and veggie to nigate the constipation.

Hi Donna!  She's beautiful!!  We're expecting our little girl in abotu 8 weeks or less, I can't believe it!  After 3 boys, I can only think pink!  Glad to see Alyssa is growing so big and healthy.  It really is sad how fast it goes by, I don't want to miss a second of this next year to come, I don't know how I'm going to keep my head in real estate for 2009!  James will have to do that for me.  =)

Take care!

Sincerely,

Kathleen

Donna, she still is a cutie and is growing up so fast. Hope she can outgrow the anemia.

Donna - When my son was a baby, he had three surgeries before his first birthday, one of which was ear tubes (which honestly didn't even help).  Thankfully, everything was correctable, and he is a vibrant and healthy nine year old today.  Parenting him prepared us for the other two, which have been much easier by comparison.

Kathleen, You're going to enjoy a girl so much.  You're still not out of the woods of peeing during a diaper change though.  I was told only boys did that, but my girl did it all the time! I can't wait to see pictures when she's born.

Gary, I hope so.  I can't think of what will happen next...

Jason, three surgeries?  Glad to hear he's ok and healthy!

Donna - You have an adorable little girl!  I'm glad she doesn't have to have surgery.  She may just outgrow that anemia...    Take Care!  :)

Donna,

If it makes you feel any better, I was anemic as well. I bruised very easily! My mom would get so embarrassed and looked at because i was soooo skinny and bruised all the time. I had to drink Geritol (sp). I also had Tubes in my stupid left ear. I was practically deaf for my first 5 years. I used to go get my ear drained every week by this big noisy sucking machine. It felt like my face and eye was going to be swallowed by that ugly machine.

I liked my surgery. I got popsciales, pudding and got to watch cartoons all day.

I guess I'm okay now. I haven't been sick in about 6 years. After the whole anemic thing I suffered from other annoying things. If you want to know I'll let you know by email...

So glad that is ALL over with! The doctor said my mom "didn't eat right."

Whatever. My mom was to smart for that. 1973, what did they know..

Debi, Thank you.  And I sure hope so.  She drank some OJ for the first time ever, to help with the iron consumption.  She drank 1/2 oz, but not bad for the first time.

Greg, I bruise VERY easily too... I wonder if anemia is the reason.  I always accuse Mike of beating me in my sleep as I'll wake up with another 2-3 bruises every morning.  If you want to email me the "other" issues you had, I would be curious, so I can keep an eye out for her.

Thanks for the Alyssa update... she is sooooooooo cute!! I am so happy that you can cancel the tube operation. Hopefully, the anemia will pass too....

Teresa, Thank you!!  Her dimples are cuter each day!  We're also so happy about canceling the tube surgery.  However, we've noticed something else... since we got the word that her ears are cleared, she has stopped talking.  When she had fluid in her ears, she talked all the time.  Since they're cleared, all she does is grunt.  I thought that would be opposite.  She's been taking the iron drops everyday, so when we go back in to recheck her levels, I'll be asking about her speech at that time.  It's very weird.

Hopefully, that will clear up too. Please keep us informed on how she is doing. Take care!

Donna - Healty, Happy and a real Cutie ... glad she did not need surgery

Teresa, I will.  It's been another week, and still just grunts, moans, and squeals.  I heard that if they're working on something new, they put other things on the back burner,  She's trying to walk without holding onto her push toy, so maybe she's cooncentrating so hard to learn that, that she can't talk anymore.  Weird, but possibly true...

Kathy, Thank you, me too!  Very glad she didn't need it!!
