Oktoberfest is always a fun celebration in Addison TX. Tons of food and music and entertainment for the entire family. Yes, this started yesterday, but being a Thursday, I didn't announce it. Friday and Saturday are usually the best days to go, and even though it was free on Thursday, admission is only $5.
There are going to be many roads closed due to the high influx of traffic and such, so you might want to look at this page first to make sure you don't end up in circles trying to find your way around on closed roads.
Come early, stay late, drink some good, WARM, imported beer... be safe!

Wow... it's the time of the year again, huh..... I've never been there and probably still dont intend to go (this year at least!)
This is ALWAYS a great event. I have to say that Addison always has the best festival-type events like this in North Texas. They know how to do "fun" in Addison.
Loreena, I haven't gone in a couple of years, but it's always a lot of fun when I've gone in the past.
Steve, Yes, Addison does know how to party, but they don't have much else going on in that tiny "town" as it's not technically a "city". They have plenty of time to plan all their parties.
Hi Donna - we have similar events in here in Santa Clara County California too. I love them. I was born in October and always find an excuse to attend fun fall-time events ... especially following the hot summer days! Enjoy the event - have fun!
I have never been to OktoberFest out here. Thanks for the information.
Kathleen, I've always wondered why Oktoberfest is always in September. Here, it's usually still VERY hot, but because of Ike, we've had some nice weather.
John, You should definitely check it out. Get there early so you don't have parking issues.
Donna,
When I went through the Addison Citizen's Academy two years ago, I asked Ron Whitehead, the City Manager, that very question: "Why is Addison a Town and not a City?" The short answer is, Addison IS a city but uses the term "town" to differentiate itself from all the other cities in the Metroplex.
And there is PLENTY going on in Addison. We may be small in nighttime population (about 15000 residents) but during the daytime, we have over 100,000 people here. Between the shops, restaurants, and the businesses, there is ALWAYS something happening here.

San Diego's largest Oktoberfest is right here in La Mesa. I can walk to it. And I plan to. LOL
Lorrie, I just don't see how they could charge only $10 for the athletic complex...
Jim, They are more fun when you can walk to them and not have to worry about anything whatsoever. My husband used to live on the street with the biggest block party in North Texas, the St. Patrick's Day block party, and it was awesome to walk to it, and also throw a separate party right at the house... clean up was always the worst though.
Donna, more than 75% of the city's revenue is generated by businesses, hotels, restaurants, etc. That's one reason we have a low tax rate. The Addison Athletic Center (one time $10 fee) is just one of the perks of living here. We have a very visible police presence in the residential neighbhorhoods. There is no scheduled day for bulk trash pick up because if you call the city in the morning, the bulk trash is picked up the same day. The mayor throws a holiday brunch party every year and all residents who get a water bill are invited. Just a few of the benifits of being an Addison resident.
