Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Happy 55th Birthday, Mom

Happy 55th Birthday, Mom

This is a belated shout out to my mom who turned 55 this weekend, October 4.  My computer crashed over the weekend, so this is my first opportunity to blog about it.

My mom hasn't had the easiest life.  She was held back through out her career since she didn't have a college degree, only an associates at a 2 year college.  She raised my brother and me on less than $32k a year.  I didn't know this until I got to college and had to turn in her tax returns so I could qualify for financial.

After I saw the "tiny" amount, I went back to her and told her I now understood why I heard the word "NO" a lot whenever I wanted or needed something.  However, I learned how to sale and coupon shop from my mom.  I will never buy anything at regular price, no matter how cute it is.

Currently, she is "retired" so she could be a grandmother, however, with our move to Austin in a few months, she's definitely not happy, and is threatening to go back to work.  I feel for her as she moved back to the Dallas area two and a half years ago in anticipation of being a grandmother, and now we're moving... I told her and my step father that they could move to Austin too since he can home office, but the Austin airport is limited as he travels a lot...

We'll see what the future brings, but right now, she's happy spending as much time as she can with Alyssa.  Happy 55th Birthday, Mom.

Donna, I have had quite a few buyers move to San Antonio to be near the grandkids.  I also know of people who moved away to be near the grandkids.  Maybe your Mom will move to Austin... she will be missing her grandbaby.

Janna, Thanks.

Lori, Thanks.  For 50, she lived out of state, but my brother and I joined in and sent her some nice crystal.

Shirley, I think she'll convince her husband to move there at some point, but he won't go for it while he's still traveling a lot, a couple of times a week. I told my mom she could stay a few days every month, but that didn't fly very well either....

How nice of you to send these wishes to your mom.  I know you love her very much.  Hopefully, she will one day be able to be closer to you and your family.

What a great idea to wish her a happy birthday on here!  My mom turned 90 this year and is still very independent.  I've gotten her hooked on email but am still struggling to get her interested in web browsing.  Next year I'll post a birthday wish on here and then show her how to go find it.

Meanwhile, happy birthday to your mom too!!!

Richard, Thanks!  And that's great that at 90 your mom will do email and such.  My husband's grandmother is 84 and tries really hard to do email and such.  She likes to forward all the dirty jokes.  However, at least once a month, she calls my husband saying it's broken, so he has to connect remotely (she's in Nebraska) and change her settings back as she always messes around and doesn't know what she's doing... but at least she's trying!

You remind me of a friend of mine. She likes to remind me that I'm a year older than her mom! I don't feel 56. What happened?

Hey, Donna. It sounds like you have a wonderful mother, who loves her family so much. I hope that it works out for them to move with you and your family. Thanks for sharing, Jim

Patt, Thank you.

Larry, LOL!  I went to real estate school with a lady 1 year younger than my mom, yet she had a daughter who was 12.  HUGE difference.  Her daughter went to college last year, and she still thinks our age difference is amazing.

Jim, Thanks, but my step father won't move down here... he thinks it's career suicide!

I know this is late too, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Donna's MOM!! I hope you can get things worked out that your mom can continue to be close to Alyssa. It's funny to say this but they can learn a lot from each other. Maybe your step father will be able to retire soon? Take care!

Teresa, He was all set to retire in the next couple of years, but with the market... it kinda did a roller coaster with their funds as well, so who knows.  They're still young, so early for retirement.  Thanks!
