I'm so upset, I just had my last Frosty at Wendy's tonight. I have loved Wendy's Frosties for years. I was even annoyed when they recently came out with the vanilla Frosty because everyone knows Frosties are CHOCOLATE!
Anyway, I was on my way home this evening and Alyssa had fallen asleep in the car, so I knew I didn't need to rush home. I pulled off the tollway to stop by Wendy's to get a Frosty as I felt I deserved one. I had not had one in a couple of months.
I went through the drive thru. I ordered my small Frosty. I got to the second window and held out my $1.07 and the girl looks at me and says, "It's $1.29."
I said, "No it's not. It's $0.99 and with tax it's $1.07." She looks at me like I'm crazy and says again, "No, it's $1.29."
I looked at her and said, "A small Frosty is not worth $1.29 and it's never been $1.29." Again, she looked at me like I was crazy, like she had no idea Frosties had been $0.99 for years and years!
I got through my real estate classes over 8 years ago by stopping by Wendy's every single night and ordering the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger, Biggie Fries, and Biggie Frosty all for ONLY $3.23. Over the years, the $0.99 fries went down to the large, and then the medium, and currently a small. The Frosty did the same thing. However, the Junior Bacon Cheeseburger is still $0.99. Now, they're trying to take the $0.99 away from their trademark Frosty.
Wendy's, listen up, it's not worth more than $0.99!!! You just lost a VERY loyal customer! No longer will I go and order some fries to dip into my Frosty as I love the sugar-salty mix along with the hot-cold mix of the two that most people would never think to mix together.
I'm very sorry to say that until I see a Frosty at $0.99 again, I will NEVER have another Frosty.

Donna, say what you feel; keeping these things in leads to pimples!
I'm kidding, I'm a kidder....I feel your pain.
They changed the 99 cent menu? How dare they! I remember when McDonalds slogan was "You get change back from your dollar"
My irritation is when you go to different locations of the same brand, order the exact same thing, like a Large cappucino at McDonalds, and the price can vary as much as FORTY CENTS for the same thing! Why could it be that different? BUT IT IS THE PRINCIPLE!
Donna: Regardless of whether or not it is worth it... it is a really stupid marketing move to change something as basic as a Frosty. A dumb move. You tell 'em woman !
Oh, Donna. There are some things that I might be able to give up, but chocolate is not one of them! That extra .30 may just make the difference between a good day and a bad day right now. I say, go for the Frosty, girl!
I love Frosty's® too! If I REALLY wanted one, I'd pay $2.00 (don't tell anyone)
Donna, As we age we must give up things like Frosty's because the go to your hips. Better now while you look great then after it's too late.
I was just thinking today...When will the Dollar Store become the Two Dollar Store.... I have bought an item in there forever for $1. Today I go in and it is $1.79!!
Can someone please explain to me the fascination with women and dipping fries into their frosty???? This is the craziest food combo I have ever seen someone eat. I'm dumbfounded....
Bob, you beat me to it. I love dipping fries into my frosty. I'm glad I am not the only one.
Donna, by golly I'm on your side! Are they saying the burgers aren't costing more but the Frosty's are? What's with that? I think they're making up the money they're losing on their burgers in other "obscure" places...yep. That's it. I would feel better spending a 1.29 bill on a burger than a Frosty. Okay, you got my blood pressure up! (so does the ice cream) Ha! You should write them a letter and complain. This was fun.
Later in the rain~Deb
Hi Donna... Frosty's were actually never really chocolate. The original recipe was half chocolate and hale vanilla mixed which, In Dave Thomas' mind, allowed it to not overpower the flavor of his burgers. But no matter what the flavor, a small one should be $0.99!
Well, darn. Never having tried fries dipped in Frosties, and finding the idea darned near irresistible, do I encourage them in this ridiculous price-raising scheme just so I can try it and perhaps get addicted, or do I resist the temptation?
Yummmm. No matter which way you look at it, now I want chocolate icecream. :-)
Wow, having "known" you for a while, I didn't think you would get this emotional over a "Frosty". I understand your frustration though. It's 10:58pm right now. The $1.29 Frosty sounds good to me.
First the blog button and now this?
Donna - Dipping fries into a frosty is one of the greatest dining pleasures known. What a shame that you are forced to abandon this delicacy!
i used to work at Wendy's years ago, frosty's were more than $1 back then. Don't give up on the frosty for a few cents. i'll buy you one!
WOW! I had no idea so many people were so passionate about the Frosty too!
Lanette, I'm sure it could lead to pimples, but this was a good release.
Rich, I can't say I remember McD's slogan, but no one should ever mess with the dollar menu!
Pat, I know!! What's that all about!
Karen Anne, Very dumb! It's a trademark product. I'll even admit I was happy when they reduced the $.99 from the Biggie down to the small since I didn't "need" the larger size, but to now increase the price too??
Teresa, But it's a 20% increase! I can get my chocolate fix from just one hershey square and not even eat the whole bar.
Mott, $2 for a SMALL Frosty? I hope you're kidding! They don't make you poop gold or anything... LOL!
Robin, yeah, but the Frosty doesn't have too much fat according to the Wendy's website.
Sherry, The Dollar Store is selling things for more than $1?? Blasphemous!!
Bob, It's awesome! As I mentioned, it's a combo of hot and cold with sugar and salty. Plus, I hate Wendy's fries as they're too potatoey, and this is the only way I can eat them.
Michael, Good taste!
Deb, I hope they have Google Alerts set up to see whenever someone mentions their name. Maybe they'll contact me and offer me a lifetime pass for a $.99 Frosty!!
Steve, I think the Frosty has the perfect amount of "chocolate" in it. You're right, it's not an overpowering taste like a chocolate frozen yogurt.
Tricia, Resist!! You don't want to get addicted and then get mad about the price later!
Lindsey, There are many better options than an overpriced Frosty!!
Loreena, It's the principle. I get passionate over anything that has a principle! Maybe I'll start getting the Chik fil A ice cream. It tastes like pure sugar!!
Amanda, I know...
Erik, No joke! I'll have to find a new combination... I'll go back to McD's fries and their sweet 'n sour sauce. YUMMMM! I haven't had that in years!
Jay, Maybe the Biggie was over $1 by that time, but the Biggie used to be $0.99 as recent as 8 years ago when I was in real estate school. How long ago did you work there?
Donna,
I worked the Wendy's till back in high school. i was there when the 'Biggie' was introduced, which we all thought was a retarded marketing gimmik that would be gone in a year. Guess we were wrong. Back then there was NO dollar menu... and if you can figure out how long ago that was, i just dated myself.
I don't recall Wendy's ever not having "Biggie"... did that come along when "super-size" became popular?
324,000 points!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!! Thanks for commenting on my pathetic 23,000 point blog "milestone". I am amazed; 324,000 points!!! I'll be dead before I can get there!!!! Thanks again!!!
Hey Donna, thanks for the heads-up. I didn't know that they took the frosty off the .99 menu. To be perfectly honest I don't have them near as much as I had before. The frosty is the food that I craved when I was pregnant... my son likes them too. I don't know if you go to Mickey-D's but they are changing their menu too... of course all prices seem to be going up.
Donna - I'm so tired of the do more with less attitude... I'll boycott the frosty!
I love the the chili. I have never like frosty's, milk shakes or anything "milky" YUCK, i can barely type that word. I hate the liquidy thick texture. Like your "moist" word.
I never understood the square patties.
Today I ate at Whataburger for the first time in about 3 months. That was good.
And you will go back. Just admit it.
Every Wendy's in independently owned and operated and I'm guessing the one you went to was one of the ones that didn't have a dollar menu. We have many McDonalds with a higher price for the dollar menu items also. Don't give up on Wendy's, just don't go back to that one.
Lewis, You're welcome. Everyone needs to start somewhere, and I don't look at someone's point count before I comment. Keep going...
Teresa, I thought I would crave them too, but I only had a Frosty like twice during my pregnancy.
Debbie, Thanks for your support! ;)
Greg, I don't like Whataburger buns. They're too doughy and not in a good way. They have good onion rings though... haven't had them in years!
Todd, I've gone to that Wendy's for years. It's not like I stopped by a new one. Double stackers are $0.99 still. How can a Frosty go up so much when meat isn't.
Donna, how do you feel about Frostys anyway? I couldn't tell from your post!!!!
Oh, the fact that you know all the menu items by name AND price scares me a little!!!
Please go and have your cholesterol checked before you do anything else today!!!
It is happening all over. Don't go to Chili's restaurant...they also raised all their prices in the last week or so. It seems everything has gone up on the menu 2-3 dollars. I underestand our higher inflation is coming across the board in everything, and the biggest increases will come after the first of the year.
I like to get things from the dollar menu at McDonalds. Hope they have not increased the price.
Craig, I've had my cholesterol tested... it's very low though my mom and brother both have very high... I eat right and deserve treats!
Jim, Most restaurants are lowering their prices and decreasing the amount of food... interesting that they're raising prices.
Gita, McD fries dipped in their sweet 'n sour sauce is awesome! But their TINY ice cream cones aren't worth $0.99.
Donna, Your post made me laugh. Frosties will always be chocolate and to call it another flavor then it just isn't a frostie!!
I love them but I haven't bought one in years. But it doesn't surprise me that the price went up - seems like everything is more expensive.
Linda, I'm glad I could make you laugh!
Hello Donna: The financial "crisis" is effecting the price of everything these days! Wendy's came out with a "milkshake" too (in addition to the stawberry & vanilla Frosty), my daughter got a chocolate one the other day when we were traveling (she was driving), because she thought a straw would be better than a spoon while driving. She said that it was TERRIBLE.
BTW, thanks for commenting on my blog post. See you in the Rain!
Donna - Isn't it a shame that some things have to change? Maybe if enough people stop buying it, they'll lower the price back to $.99... :)
Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger & Chicken nuggets with Honey Mustard is my Wendy's vice! I try and stay away from the Frosty....but sometimes you've just got to have it!
Cheryl, They should just turn the kiddie size into the $0.99 and throw their milkshake out the window!
Debi, Hopefully!
Garren, It's not that fattening, so it's ok, but not anymore with the increased price!! LOL
Hi Donna,
Thanks for reading my blog this morning and in perusing your blogs, I found this Frosty one! Way to go!!!! I have loved Frosty's forever too, and did not realize the price had gone up because I always get it with something else...just figured the whole thing went up in price!
WOW! Ever since Dave passed away, the company has gone down the tubes, and now this!!!!!!
This post totally cracked me up! I think it's because it's been a tradition for you and you know what you can expect. So when that is taken away, it took the fun and everything else away as well.
The only thing I buy from Wendys was the Jr Bacon Cheeseburger. It used to be the best deal in town for 99 cents. About 6 months ago I notices alot more bun and less meat. I looked at my sandwich in detail and it appeared to be 1/2 a hamburger (it did not fill the bun), 2 pieces of bacon which was 1 piece cut in half, and half a piece of cheese. I had to combine the contents of 2 sandwiches to make the Jr bacon cheeseburger that I have loved for years!
I'm now done with Wendys as well. Crazy I tell you!
Rose, I agree. I wonder if he's flipping over a few times a day.
LaNita, Change is BAD!! LOL
Chad, I never eat the bun when I get the Jr Bacon Cheeseburger, but I have noticed the patty is very thin these days, and crumbling in my hands.
