Do you know the history of the Reese's® Peanut Butter Cup? It sounds strange, and maybe it's not true, but I found the story (a story) here. Here's the summary...
Reese Witherspoon was walking down some stairs eating a chocolate bar, and some guy named HB Reese was eating peanut butter straight from the jar. The chocolate slipped out of Reese Witherspoon's hands and landed in the peanut butter jar.
Then those famous words were muttered, "You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!" along with "You got your peanut butter on my chocolate!"
HB Reese tried and tried to market this delicious coincidence, but kept failing. He sold his idea to Hershey for $8, yes only $8.
Hershey went on to make what we know today as the Reese's® Peanut Butter Cups.
So, back to my question. How do you eat a Reese's® Peanut Butter Cup?
I like to keep them in the freezer. I take them out of the freezer a couple of minutes before I'm going to eat them. I then eat all the chocolate around the peanut butter first, followed by the top and then the bottom. I then eat the peanut butter and let it crumble in my mouth. YUMMY!!
I bought Halloween candy a couple of days ago and opened the Reese's® Peanut Butter Cups today. I probably won't be giving those out as I love them. I'll give out the icky skittles I bought. I like to hand out things I don't like so I'm not tempted to eat the leftovers. Is that selfish? Nah, most people love Skittles! It's not like I'm giving out that old Grandma, nasty candy with the pink and blue wrappers.

Well to answer your question, I take one Reeses cup, one cup of chocolate ice cream, 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup and a large tablespoon of peanut butter and mix them all together....this is amazing! It taste like a giant Reeses cup! I hope you try it! I got the idea from a local ice cream shop called Coldstone.

Hi Donna, I had heard this story before so if you and I agree that makes it official ! I also remember the firast time I heard about some sicko handing out Halloween candy with pins and razor blades in them.
I did a Google search and sorry to burst your bubble. They were created long before Reese Witherspoon was born.

The H.B. Reese Candy Company began manufacturing a product made with specially processed peanut butter and HERSHEY'S Milk Chocolate in the 1920s. Introduced as simply peanut butter cups, the popular candy item is known today as REESE'S peanut butter cups.
The name REESE'S has a unique heritage established by Harry Burnett (H.B.) Reese, a former dairy employee of Milton S. Hershey, founder of Hershey Foods Corporation. Reese was so inspired by Mr. Hershey's success that he left the dairy business to make his living in the candy industry.
While that decision inevitably developed into something truly unique in America's food industry, Reese experienced much adversity before building a company that thrived on the manufacture of a single product.
Born in 1879 on a farm in Frosty Hill, PA (York County), Reese was not very fond of farming. As a youth, he took a variety of jobs including country butchering and oil burner selling before moving to Hershey, PA, in 1917.
That is such a cute story, I won't even try to debunk it as an Urban Legend :-)
There's only one way to eat a Reeses...just put the whole thing in your mouth and chew like a pig.

The real story is: Reese Witherspoon was walking down some stairs eating a large glob of peanut-butter on a paper plate. Startled by a paparazzi hiding in the stairwell the glob flew into the air and landed on Reese's bra (don't ask) just as the paparazzi snapped the picture.
As you all know, the picture was sold to the tabloids for a huge amount of money and daubed Reese's Peanutbutter Cup. Hector Hershey, a Hershey heir and huge Witherspoon and peanut-butter fan in a flash of genus decided to capitalize on the notoriety and named a candy bar after the picture. And the rest, ladies and gentlemen... is history.
Cute post, Donna! What I hate is when you get a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup that is alldried out inside...YUK! Must be fresh AND cold. I'm not so picky about eating the chocolate offbecause I love the two flavors together.....nothing much better. Close second might be popcornand Cadbury Chocolate bar -- bite of popcorn then bite of chocolate...YUM...okay, I'm getting out of hand.

Sherry, Are you talking the minitures or the full sized ones? I let them melt in my mouth sometimes too, but mostly eat the chocolate off first and let it melt in my mouth as it's so soft. By the way, I was at your office a couple of weeks ago and met Sylvia and a couple of the agents. Y'all need signage that can be seen from the parking lot! I drove back and forth 3 times before deciding to just walk it and see if I could find a door with the name, and then saw it in the walking path.... just a thought.
I don't chill them unless they were in the car or some other place that was warm. I am glad to see I am not the only one who cherry picks the favorites from the Halloween candy.
Donna, both sizes! From what I understand, signage is impossible due to the restrictions. I have learned to tell clients the other signage around, and explain it like they are 5 years old! Then they find it everytime! I have considered taking a photo, just so I can email what it looks like.
I used to love them (still do really) but gave up sugar 9 days ago....Not sure how I will handle trick or treat...guess I should buy all candy I hate, but that list is pretty short!

Sherry, And if I was told it was right at the main walkway, I would have found it no problem. With that light going in, it should be easy to say, "Turn in and you'll run right into it if you don't turn to park."
Pat, what kind of thing is that? Why would you give up sugar? Many sugars are GOOD for you! No fruit either as fruit has tons of sugar.
Hey Donna, Twix and Reese Peanut Butter cups are my favorites. I am glad that you eat yours the way I do but I don't put them in the freezer. I eat my Klondike bars the same way (but they are frozen).

Richard, You don't like peanut butter? That's impossible. You've just had the wrong kind... you should try the Peter Pan 1/3 Reduced Fat Creamy. It's the best! None of the others even compare in sweet and creaminess!!
Oh I get it now......You're one of those moms who "tests" the candy YOU like before you let your kiddies have them! And then you tell them that the Reeces are no good so you can squirrel them away for yourself!!!!
Just the other day I took a FULL BAG of Reese's peanut butter cups to the girls at my lawyer's office.
I put the bag on the table and we all looked at each other and immediately put a whole one in our mouths, and let them melt... and that's when the girls told me I HAVE TO try them frozen.
I had never heard of that before... and unfortunately, we ate the whole bag LOL ... so I'll have to wait another month before I can try them frozen (have to get rid of the lbs first, before I add more lbs.) :)

Craig, Well, considering this is Alyssa's first Halloween, I can't really say I'm one of "those" moms, but my mom certainly was. We had to go through every single piece and she took out the unwrapped ones and the ones that looked like the wrapper was torn a little, and she tested as we went... I'm sure I'll do a little of that, but not to extreme.
Sylvie, Yes, you MUST try them frozen! My husband can't stand that I keep chocolate in the freezer. I did catch him put the Reese's bars in the fridge last week, and I asked him about it. He didn't put them in the freezer out of some principle he has, but decided the fridge would help them not melt. He can't admit he actually likes them cold.
First Halloween with your little one? Take lots of pictures! This year my not-so-little one wants to go without me for the first time ever. Enjoy it. Time goes by so fast.

I haven't had a Reese's P/B cup forever! I love the mix of peanut butter and chocolate. I've come close in a pinch of substituting peanut and chocolate chips on a spoon. Yum!

Lindsey, I can't say I've ever done that, but there have been plenty of times I've eaten peanut butter on a spoon and just let it all stick to the top of my mouth.
I always buy Reese's Peanut Butter cups for Halloween to hand out to kids, but after I see them sitting in the big bowl with the rest of the lame candy I bought, they usually get demolished by me in between doorbell rings. As it happens, I carefully pick around them and hand out the lame candy until I'm out of lame candy or I've developed a Reese's ulcer... this only happens once a year, so I can dig it.
Nope, but when I get a chance I will look into it....
