There is going to be a ski resort built in Ft. Worth, TX, just west of Dallas. This resort is going to be a Bearfire Resort. Bearfire has several other resorts across the country, but when they're done with this one, it's going to be the largest one built yet.
Now, you're probably thinking, It doesn't snow very much in DFW, muchless does it keep a consistently cold temperature during the winter months. Well, these factors won't be of any concern. The "snow" is going to be some kind of carpet called Snowflex that allows for a smooth skiing experience.
I've been been skiing before, so I won't be able to judge the difference, but I'm very excited for the opportunity to learn! Along with the slopes, there will be a 600 room hotel and convention center!

They are excepting around 2.4 million visitors annually. At first I thought that was a large number. But then I remembered that Dallas and the surrounding suburbs have over 5 million people already, so that's not saying too much about bringing outside tourism to the area.
Overall, the project is supposed to be just shy of $700 million and I can't wait to buy some ski clothes!!

Skiing in Dallas?? Reminds me of the indoor ski resort I saw on TV that was built in the Middle East. It makes snow and is kept cold. Talk about an high air conditioning bill!! Sounds like this one in Dallas will use some kind of artificial snow substitute.

Chris T, I don't think shorts will be necessary as they plan on blowing cool air throughout. They did say that in the heat of the summer, it would only cool the place down 20 degrees though.
Chris L, Kansas City might not be that big by itself, but it borders on two states. I'm surprised that didn't see the potential.
Rita, Yes, they are taking the idea from the one in the Middle east, I can't think of the name of the place, except they're not using artificial snow here.
Daniel, Be careful about rug burns!
behind every crazy idea is a genius(or a fool if it fails)
interesting
My Dear Ms Harris,
Regarding the headline of your posting... Ski Resort In The Dallas Area? YES!!
Since WHEN is Fort Worth... "in the Dallas area?"
Fort Worth is in the FORT WORTH area.
Donna and Linda too: What I was trying to say, and I was trying to do it in a polite way, was that many people who live west of DFW Airport would rather not be told they live in the "Dallas" area. Dallas and Fort Worth are quite different. One obvious difference would be to look at downtown Dallas, and downtown Fort Worth. Downtown Fort Worth: People of all ages, older couples and singles, young marrieds with their children... walking leisurely along tree-lined streets. The Fort Worth police in downtown Fort Worth are on bicycles, usually wearing shorts. Downtown Fort Worth truly has such a friendly, family atmosphere.
Yes, McKinney IS in the Dallas area, and is a lovely town, but a place like "Keller" borders on Fort Worth, and is perhaps thirty miles from "Dallas."
For all of us in Tarrant County who love living in the "Fort Worth area...," Fort Worth is IN the Fort Worth area.
The preceding was written in a friendly and proud, if somewhat tongue-in-cheek tone. Take care...
