Austin TX Real Estate - Hill Country Austin Lakeway Homes for Sale: Did You Celebrate Square Root Day Today? 3/3/9

Did You Celebrate Square Root Day Today? 3/3/9

Did you know today was "Square Root Day".  Have you ever heard of Square Root Day?  The square root of 9 is 3 and today is March 3.

I love little things like this.

Square Root Day was actually started by a high school teacher in California on Sept 9, 1981 (9/9/81).  It has since gained a lot of popularity.  After today, the next time you'll get to celebrate will be April 4, 2016 (4/4/16).

However, if you don't want to wait to celebrate the next Square Root Day and you want another math day to celebrate, "Pi Day" is coming in just a few days, March 14 (3.14).

I would have loved to do something special on 7/7/07 a couple of years ago. The Olympics was on 8/8/08 this past year.  What is scheduled for 9/9/09 this year?  I'm sure someone's going to come up with something.

My Birthday is 7/11, like the convenience store.  My mom is 10/4, like the CB radio call.  My husband is 5/30, like Beer Thirty.

Do you have any interesting dates in your families?

Hi Donna ~ No interesting dates in my family come to my mind but I love these dates.  Who knew?!  I have enjoyed the obvious ones like 2/2/2 etc but the square root "holiday" is new to me. I loved math - at least at this level - so I'll be celebrating!

Donna, ever since I was a little kid back in 6/6/66 I have been fascinated with those weird dates like that, but had not heard of square root or Pi days. Pi are squared but aren't they really round? My Dad used to bug me with that one all the time.

I think those dates are funny.  We got married on 8/8/98 (so we celebrated our 10 year anniversary watching the Olympics Opening Ceremony) and my nephew is born on 11/11 but that's the extent of interesting dates in my family.

Liz, I've enjoyed the dates each month since 2001 too, 1/1/1, 2/2/2, 3/3/3, 4/4/4, etc...

Gary, Wow, way back then??  jk

Stacey-Ann, That's a great 10 year anniversary! I tried to get my daughter born on 11/11, but they stopped the contractions and sent me home.  She is 11/16, with no pattern to continue the family tradition.

I was born 10-10-1973. By brother was born 7-7-70, but he isn't lucky much.

Donna where do you come up with this stuff...... I hate math! just because I am not good at it!

Posted by Jesse Vasquez, "APPROVED” (Graystone Mortgage LLC) over 9 years ago

Greg, That's pretty cool that you both have double number bdays.  Must be easy to remember for your family!  PLus, with yours as 10/10/73, the 7+3=10, the same as the 7/7/70 all equalling the same number.  VERY spooky!!

Jesse, My brain has so much "stuff" in it, blogging is a great way to help release it all!

I love dates like that too! My brother was born on 12-12 but other than that, no interesting dates in my family.

I think a lot of weddings happen on dates like that. It makes the anniversary easy to remember. I got married in June of 1998 and was joking with my hubby back then that we should get married on 8-9-98 or 9-8-98 or 9-9-98 so he would remember it. Oddly, he remembers our anniversary because it is one month earlier than the date that he enlisted/separated from the military a few years before. Hey, as long as he remembers it! :-)

Libby, Yes, as long as he remembers, he's earning tons of points!

Donna, I'm buying a little house (for me alone) and the number is 359 so added together it's 17. 1+7=8 and that's a lucky number...right? Boy, do I pick your brain!

OOH - my anniversary is 3-2-1 (March 2, 2001). I joked that this was so it would be easy enough for my husband to remember it!

Donna, I didn't know square root day even existed. M kids would appreciate it as they are starting to learn math. They'll get a kick out of "Pi" day as well. Thanks for the post.

Deb, Good to hear you finally settled on a house!  Yes, 8 is a very lucky number!

Kim, That's an awesome date!  And anytime you fight, you could do a count down, 3-2-1, yet the count down would then remind you guys of the anniversary date.  So kewl!  I have a boring wedding date, 10/22/05.  It was almost 10/15/05 for all multiples of 5...

Dan and Amy, Get them prepared for Pi day as it's just next weekend!

Donna,

I never heard of square root day. I was just reading through the blogs and came upon your post. The only dates that are kind of special in my family are that my husband and I were married on Feb 14,1970(Valentines Day); also my husband was born on April Fool's day. Anyway, thanks for the post--something to think about.

have a great square root day,

Linda, I love meeting "Fool Babies".  I bet your husband went through a lot growing up.

Richard, Yep, that's my mom's bday.  We call it "Trucker Day".

Donna...wow!  Did not know about square root day or any other days devoted to math...probably because it was my worst subject in school!

Donna - I had your times switched up.  Thought today was the late class, not the early.  Hopefully you still had a good turnout.  As for your square root day.. had no idea this was a special day.  Out of curiosity... what is Beer Thirty?

Tara, Learn something new everyday!

John, uh-huh, sure... whatever "reason" that makes you feel better! LOL  Beer Thirty is 5:30. My husband's bday is May 30, 5/30.  It's about when Happy Hour typically starts for most corporate world people.

Donna - 7-7-70 also equals 21. 10-10-73 equals 12. so you have 21 & 12! Too silly! ha..

Donna-I had no idea there was such a thing as "Square Root" or "PI" Day.  What an interesting fact.
